My First Dressmaking Class

My first dressmaking class is suitable for learners who want to start a sewing journey with a slightly challenging project. You will be offered the opportunity to build a solid foundation in understanding how a sewing machine functions and various methods of troubleshooting future sewing problems.

You will be working on 2 separate projects during this period,

  1. A makeup pouch with a zip (this eases you into some difficult areas of sewing)
  2. Create your pattern and sew your shift dress

Course Content

  • Complete introduction on how to setup and use A Brother or Singer Sewing machine
  • Troubleshooting and tips
  • Different types of sewing machine stitches
  • Introduction to different ways of finishing your hemline
  • Seams and Hems
  • Creating a basic pattern
  • Preparing, cutting, marking your fabric
  • Taking accurate body measurements
  • Sewing and finishing your projects

Workshop Objective

At the end of this workshop, the students should be able to confidently utilise the sewing to complete basic sewing tasks and work on simple projects.

  • Sew a simple makeup bag using their newly acquired sewing techniques e.g attaching a zip, sewing round edges
  • Cut and sew a simple shift dress by taking accurate body measurements, creating a simple dress pattern, cutting the fabric and completing the garment

SEWING LEVEL: Absolute beginner, no previous experience required
