Pattern Cutting: The Classic Tailored Shirt

Pattern cutting is a great art; you control your designs by creating your patterns

Pattern cutting is ideal for aspiring Sewing Bees who would like to secure a thorough understanding of how garments are made in the industry. You will learn how to make clothes to fit your specific body type. This method is used for making your own couture and bespoke garments.

This course will introduce you to the skills involved in pattern cutting using your own body measurements; you will also get to learn how to measure other people too. You will be taught basic cutting techniques for garments in general. You will need to have basic sewing skills and be well acquainted with your sewing machine.

At the end of this course you will have a fundamental knowledge of how to create, tweak and alter your own skirt patterns, most importantly; you could also create a pattern for a family member or friend.

This course is 12hrs, spread over 2 Saturdays

Week 1 – 10th June
Week 2 – 17th June

REQUIREMENTS: You will need to have basic sewing skills and be well acquainted with your sewing machine. It will be helpful if you knew a bit about patterns

During this course you will learn:

  • Different figure  and body types
  • Different fabric grades
  • Drafting a 40 inch Shirt block
  • How to sew collar and cuffs
  • Button sizing
  • Pattern adapting into loose, regular or classic fit
  • Different fusing types
  • How to complete a fully ready to wear shirt
